Snow Patrol w/Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds & Jake Bugg

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Noel Gallagher’s infamous ego is almost as big as his former band Oasis was British. The cantankerous singer-guitarist thought his alma mater ensemble was better than Blur, on par with The Beatles, and he’s dissed contemporaries the likes of Jay-Z, Radiohead and Green Day. So touring alongside stadium-y white-belt-wearing Scottish (!) milquetoast-makers Snow Patrol — who write weepy torch ballads for those in the Grey’s Anatomy crowd that find U2 and Coldplay a tad too edgy — must force Gallagher to bite his highfalutin tongue in backstage encounters. “Your set tonight was brilliant, Noel!” “Yeah, and your set was, um, a set, wankers!” I kid. With backing band the High Flying Birds in tow, Gallagher will warm up Snow Patrol fans with songs from his self-titled debut. Oasis enthusiasts who hunger for the colossal Britpop hooks that made “Live Forever” and “Wonderwall” ’90s buzz-bin staples will certainly find satisfaction in Gallagher’s rafter-reaching more recent tunes, and nostalgia in performances of Oasis chestnuts like “Supersonic” and the still-majestic epic “Don’t Look Back in Anger.”
