A Gala of Goblins and Ghouls

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Not many bands get to be the heroes of more than one hometown. The Features’ debut EP was one of the most notable releases on short-lived, bright-burning ’Boro label Spongebath, and their major-label contract seemed inevitable, even if their subsequent release from said deal did not. Since signing in 2009 with Kings of Leon’s Nashville-based imprint Serpents and Snakes, the group has released two records received equally well by fans and critics, and they tour extensively while their songs continue to find placement in movies and on television. The Features have seen some of the highest highs and lowest lows in their 15-year history, but Matt Pelham and company consistently deliver a show that keeps crowds on their feet and pumping fists in unison. If you aren’t already a die-hard fan of their grade-A hooks, danceable New Wave sensibility, and penchant for Eastern European folk flavors, you’re probably in the minority in Middle Tennessee, but fear not: When they come to Cannery Ballroom this Halloween, it’s a sure bet there will be a crowd of stalwarts to help you sing along.
