The Jezabels w/Yukon Blonde

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

If Jenn Wasner’s Flock of Dimes met The Duke Spirit, they might come out sounding something like The Jezabels. Not to be confused with the similarly named feminist blog, but possessed of a similar smart bluster, the Sydney quartet makes billowy, atmospheric pop songs with a slightly gloomy ’80s overcast. With a voice that at times sounds like White Chalk-era PJ Harvey channeling Bella Donna-era Stevie Nicks, singer Hayley Mary writhes and soars over driving rock beats, gauzy synth drones and cascading Cure-esque guitar echoes. It’s a confident, compelling sound — unabashedly romantic, unapologetically arty and undeniably evocative. Legend has it their song “Long Highway” almost made it onto a Twilight soundtrack but was considered “too mature,” so read into that what you will. Yukon Blonde open.
