Stephaniesid w/Hanzelle & Honey Locust
Get out your notebooks, folks: Within these three sets is a microcosm of definitions of the phrase “left-field pop.” Opener Honey Locust relies on accordions, banjos and other acoustic instruments to build lush and engrossing environments for their wistful melodies. Hanzelle is their perfect foil: Singer Casey Kauffman’s voice is about the only sound not electronically manipulated in their literate combo of complex, funky electronic dance rhythms and off-the-wall synth hooks. Stephaniesid strikes the Björk-y balance of alternating layers of acoustic and electronic production around Stephanie Morgan’s gray-eyed vocals.
