Dave Stewart

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Dave Stewart is an English songwriter, producer and singer inspired by the work of Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones, as well as blues and soul recordings from Memphis and Mississippi, a path familiar to rock ’n’ roll fans.  Stewart achieved fame as half of The Eurythmics, an ’80s duo featuring the vocals of Annie Lennox. He came to Nashville a couple of years ago and promptly made a record at Blackbird Studio, a facility owned by John and Martina McBride. The resulting full-length, The Blackbird Diaries, is a collection of straightforward tunes with a soul-inflected and somewhat Dylan-esque flavor — a lot of it sounds like an old Stealers Wheel record redone with Nashville musicians.Stewart has released another Nashville-recorded full-length, The Ringmaster General, and the musician hosted this summer’s Belcourt premiere of a documentary film about the making of the records.
