Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

“Still the One” is a song I heard a thousand times in my youth, because my mom always kept the radio on classic-rock stations so she could be reminded of songs from her youth. That’s a weird phenomenon about ’70s rock and pop music for my generation: Many of the kids raised in the ’80s and ’90s have childhood memories of songs associated with different eras, just because they never went out of radio rotation. Orleans is one such band, and their performance at Mercy Lounge is a benefit show for the family of co-founder Larry Hoppen, who passed away earlier this summer — it’s Hoppen whose lead vocal still echoes throughout the cosmos on “Still the One.”
