Nashville Symphony Performs The "Ring" Without Words
A few years ago, Giancarlo Guerrero appeared as a last-minute substitute with the mighty Cleveland Orchestra to conduct Lorin Maazel’s The “Ring” Without Words. Maazel, the first American maestro to conduct at Richard Wagner’s Bayreuth Festival in Germany, condensed Wagner’s four-opera, 17-hour-long “Ring Cycle” into a 75-minute orchestral blockbuster. The Cleveland Orchestra was so impressed with Guerrero’s “Ring” that it eventually named him principal guest conductor of the orchestra’s annual Miami residency. Guerrero will lead the Nashville Symphony in Maazel’s “The Ring” Without Words this weekend. Pianist Louis Lortie, who ironically has the best right hand in the business, will be in town to play Ravel’s Concerto for the Left Hand.
