Big Star! A-Z feat. Bill Lloyd, Jonathan Bright, Brad Pemberton & Preach Rutherford

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

The Big Star cult began with the 1978 release of the Memphis power-pop band’s first three albums — #1 Record and Radio City were reissued as a double LP, while the group’s late 1974 sessions saw the light of day as Third.Chris Bell and Alex Chilton’s tunes on the band’s first two albums range from atmospheric Moby Grape-style folk rock on “ST 100/6” to rockers such as “Don’t Lie to Me.” On his own, Chilton wrote the impossibly lyrical and thrillingly damaged “Nightime” and “Kanga Roo,” which take the conventions of British Invasion songwriting into the wilderness of all-American sonic invention.Tonight’s show features Nashville power-popper Bill Lloyd, along with Jonathan Bright, Brad Pemberton and Preach Rutherford plus some guest stars. Will they go from “Aria, Largo” to “You Get What You Deserve,” or from “Back of a Car” to “When My Baby’s Beside Me”?
