The Growlers w/The Vacant Lots & The Kingston Springs

Pop/Rock
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

There’s no beating around the bush — The Growlers are weird. But that’s a compliment. Channeling ’60s lo-fi psychedelic surf rock, these quirky West Coasters have coined their own genre called “beach goth,” attracting a cultish fanbase of beach bums and goths alike. After catching the attention of Black Keys frontman Dan Auerbach (who called them his favorite band in a July interview with Spin), the SoCal band took to Nashville to record their latest album, Hung at Heart, with the Grammy-nominated producer. But the result was not to their liking — it was, as they put it, “overcooked” — so the band boldly took it back to Cali to put their own raw touches on it. That album won’t be out until later this spring, but until then you can make do by catching their trippy but upbeat live set.
