A Very Sleazy Christmas

Pop/Rock
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

From “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” to “Christmas With Satan,” subversive anti-homages to the festive season are so common they constitute a heartwarming holiday tradition all their own. To that end, if you’re craving some traditional Christmas cheer, head out to Exit/In’s sleazy spectacular. Fuckshow, an oft-overlooked local trio, brings a bluesy garage-rock stomp to tracks like “Milk and Honey,” and all-female foursome Thelma and the Sleaze provide heavy rock riffs and a provocative stage presence. (They’ve been known to perform shirtless wearing strategically placed pieces of black tape.) Illinois headliners Vacation Bible School play ’90s NOFX-style punk. But surely the sleaziest act will be locals Dave Cloud and the Gospel of Power, who make shambolic iconoclasm look effortless in tracks like “Lord Michael, Prince of Discipline.”
