Static Revival w/The Weakenders, Planet Ink & Bear Cub

Pop/Rock
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

There comes a time when one desires straight-ahead rock ’n’ roll: no short cuts, no strange or psychedelic jam sessions, no odd time signatures, and no crazy novelties — just rock. This concert is that cup of tea. Static Revival’s music recalls My Morning Jacket with its melodic rhythm guitar and lead guitar chops, but lead singer Tyler Groom’s earthy, driving vocals interestingly complement the instrumentation with a folk-style storyteller’s lyrical delivery. The Weakenders proudly and appropriately wear their classic rock influences on their sleeves, concocting screaming-to-the-stratosphere guitar solos and lyrically infectious songs like “Sink or Swim.” Saying Planet Ink’s music is high-energy is an understatement — their song “Buttercup” should be the soundtrack for a major motion picture’s opening-scene bank heist. While perhaps the least rock ’n’ roll on the bill, Bear Cub brings a brilliant folk-pop formula with a hint of Bright Eyes and a surplus of delectable rock elements.
