Tower Defense w/Charges, Forget Cassettes & Century Club

Pop/Rock
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Named for a kind of game in which players use strategic fort construction to fend off attackers, Tower Defense serves up energetic Wire-style post-punk with some satisfying hints of good-natured pop underneath. Husband-and-wife team Mike and Sarah Shepherd front the group, sharing vocal duties and dueling via intricately arranged bass guitars, while drums are supplied by Jereme Frey. Familiar faces on the Nashville scene (Mike and Jereme as members of Apollo Up!, Sarah as bass player in Take The Power Back), the trio handle with gusto an approach that could come off harsh and grating in less-experienced hands. Also appearing is Forget Cassette’s Beth Cameron, performing a solo set in advance of the final installment of the band’s O Cursa trilogy, as well as their opening slot on the sold-out Self show later this month. Rounding out the bill are high-energy rockers Charges and power-poppers Century Club.
