Bluegrass Nights: Dailey and Vincent

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Though their show still contains the imprint of a couple of detours — one through the Statler Brothers songbook, others into the musically polyglot world of gospel — IBMA award winners Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent are back on the bluegrass boulevard with their latest, Brothers of the Highway (Rounder). The two principals still take (and deserve) the lion’s share of the spotlight, right down to the minimalist brother duets they feature mid-show. But there’s plenty of room for the rest of the group to shine, and they’re a dandy bunch, with senior veteran mandolinist/singer/comedian Jeff Parker surrounded by more recent arrivals Christian Davis (vocals, guitar), B.J. Cherryholmes (fiddle) and Jessie Baker (banjo) — more than enough talent to command attention each time their turns arrive.  Polished to a high gloss, the Dailey and Vincent show is varied enough to sustain any audience’s interest for an evening, and leave the crowd still wanting more.
