Bluegrass Nights w/Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky ThunderBluegrass
Those who treat bluegrass as a kind of religion are still mad at Ricky Skaggs for having “betrayed” it by becoming one of country music’s biggest stars back in the ’80s. But the fact remains that when he and his Kentucky Thunder posse gear up for some ’grass, there’s really none better to be found anywhere. Skaggs himself is singing as stunningly as ever, and picking some right-fine mandolin, too; other highlights in the group include underrated tenor man Paul Brewster, dazzling (yet tasteful!) guitar picker Cody Kilby, and jack-of-all-trades Justin Moses, whose banjo playing is tailor-made for this outfit. As always, it’s the perfect way to wrap up the Ryman’s summer bluegrass series.
