Since moving to Nashville (roughly three and one-half years, as of this writing) I have gotten married, met a ton of awesome people, written a bunch of songs, done some cool things that would be too long to mention in a sentence like this, and have learned (and am continuing to learn) about contentment. I quit a safe, pretty decent paying job, two months after Amanda (my wife) and I were first married, to pursue a fulltime career in music. Needless to say, this was not a good idea for a young married couple. And while it was not fun and not easy, through it, God has taught us a lot about what we want, what He wants, and, ultimately, who He wants us to be. We are learning that God is most glorified in us, when we are most satisfied in Him, and for us, that is a good place to be.
Growing up, I was always listening to music. James Taylor, Elton John, and the Doobie Brothers were staples at our house. We listened to a lot of other artists from differenty genres, but I especially loved JT. Music, however, was not something that I ever considered doing. I took eight years of piano lessons growing up and, at no fault to my teachers, I never really got very good. I sang in the choir as a kid but never kept up singing. It just wasn’t something that I even thought about.
