Queensryche w/Modern Superstar

Pop/Rock
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Keeping track of your favorite acts on the cock-rock oldies circuit is becoming increasingly difficult. That’s due to a recent trend of hair-metal frontmen and the bands that fired them suing each other for usage of the band name and, in the case of L.A. Guns (or Tracii Guns’ L.A. Guns) and Great White (or Jack Russell’s Great White), leaving confused audiences with two concurrently touring incarnations of the band. Add Queensryche to the list. For more than 30 years, Geoff Tate was the voice and face of Queensryche. That all changed last year (kind of), when the prog-metal mainstays parted with Tate in a rather dramatic fashion. Hours before an April 2012 gig in Brazil, the band fired Tate, his wife (the band’s manager) and his stepdaughter (who ran their fan club), leading to a physical altercation moments before the troupe took the stage. A lawsuit followed, and voilà: two versions of Queensryche, one featuring Tate and the other featuring new singer Todd La Torre. The Scene is pretty sure it’s the latter version that plays the Wildhorse tonight.
