WAR w/Tower of Power

War Memorial Auditorium presents

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

WAR is certainly one of the greatest funk outfits in the history of mankind, and they’ve written some of the genre’s most definitive songs — “Low Rider,” “The World Is a Ghetto,” “Why Can’t We Be Friends” — but they are rarely credited with creating the single best moment in American music, which they in fact did. You know that moment, right around 1:50 in “Slippin’ Into Darkness” when the organ trembles and the maracas shake and the horns swell up as the voices moan in crescendo before dropping out and into the gnarliest, funkiest groove ever put to vinyl. We could listen to those three bars on repeat, forever and ever — and the rest of their catalog ain’t too shabby either. WAR is joined by West Coast horn funk legends Tower of Power.
