Paul Burch's Fat Tuesdays feat. David Olney

Pop/Rock
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Paul Burch is something of a Renaissance man. A Nashville fixture for nearly 20 years, he writes, sings, plays and records (with crack ensemble The WPA Ballclub) some of the best original Bakersfield-style country and early rock ’n’ roll since The King himself, and with a subtle, precise delivery that reveals just enough of the fireball bubbling beneath the cool surface. As if I needed another excuse to dole out my disposable income on gumbo and beer, Burch has announced a residency at The Stone Fox every Tuesday in January, and he’ll feature a different guest each week. The first is David Olney, a master songwriter and storyteller with a prolific Web presence: Each installment in his weekly YouTube series You Never Know sends me down the proverbial rabbit hole on the featured song, whether I’ve heard it before or not. Olney’s most recent release is Body of Evidence, a three-disc set of EPs collecting philosophical meditations on lives of crime, the crucifixion of Christ, and violence in the name of love, as depicted in the American folk standard “Betty and Dupree.”
