A Square Dance feat. The New Apocalypsonians

Pop/Rock
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Nothing against dubstep and the fist-pumping freakouts its four-on-the-floor pulses and bass drops inspire en masse, but if you’re in the mood for a dance experience that involves linking arms with a partner rather than getting lost in the crowd, square dancing is the way to go. It’s yet another homegrown American art forms that’s seeing a youthful revival, and it’s one that has especially deep roots in these parts, considering the Grand Ole Opry was modeled on a barn dance. The New Apocalypsonians and square dance caller Jennifer Steckler may be New Englanders, but they know how get the old-time party started just the same. Plus they throw in some sounds you wouldn’t expect to hear from a string band, like slippery calypso-style syncopation.
