A native Tennessean, John Tomlin grew up steeped in the Bluegrass tradition. Soaking in the sounds of his grandfather's banjo and great uncle's guitar and Lester Flatt-styled singing, John quickly found his place in this musical family, learning the guitar and, ultimately, the mandolin. Over the years, John has brewed his distinctive sound, rooted in the "tradition" of legends like Bill Monroe and Lester Flatt, infused with the "progressive" flavor influence of artists like John Duffey and Sam Bush, and seasoned with a bold shot of passion and energy.
John has served up his signature blend of rich vocals and steaming hot mandolin licks on stages around the world – from "Music City" honky-tonks, to clubs and festivals throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, including the Johnny Keenan Banjo Festival in Ireland.
Along with fronting his own group, "John Tomlin & Co.," John performs regularly with several Nashville-based bands, appearing at venues like the world-famous Station Inn and on radio programs like "Music City Roots" and "Bluegrass Underground." He is honored to have shared a stage with the late Vassar Clements, as well as IBMA Hall Of Famer, Curly Seckler – both of whom contributed their incredible talents to John's CD "I Forgot to Remember."
