Who knows what wild ideas lurk in the hearts and minds of even the most traditional bluegrass players? Take a look at the varied backgrounds of this new outfit's pickers - mandolinist Ashby Frank is moonlighting from a gig with uber-trad fiddler Michael Cleveland, Deanie Richardson (fiddle) has worked with Patty Loveless and Vince Gill, and Brandon Bostic (guitar) and bass man Austin Ward are with excellent contempo-grassers Blue Moon Rising and Kenny & Amanda Smith respectively. These credits might lead you to expect musical schizophrenia, but what they've come up with places rock-ribbed traditionalism at the service of catchy but sophisticated grooves that make categorization pointless. Singers Garnet Imes Bowman and Melonie Cannon - two of the country and bluegrass worlds' best - round out the bunch with justifiably self-confident vocals that range from feisty to melancholy without ever falling into cliche.
