It’s been just over a year since QDP (“Queer Dance Party”) stormed The 5 Spot gates to host one of the few LGBT-oriented dance nights outside of the Church Street club district. Each month, The 5 Spot switches gears out of soul-clap hipster chic and into sparkle-pop on a bender. Boasting cheap drinks, $1 cover charges and a kitsch-free environment, QDP has become one of Nashville’s biggest dance nights — rivaling its compadres at High Watt, 308 and elsewhere. For this month’s installment, QDP moves on up to Mercy Lounge for prom night, where usual DJs La Force and J/K are joined by beloved synthgazers Ponychase, booze-addled glamour-punks Tipper Whore (releasing their debut single, “Day Drunk”) and a secret special guest playing some very familiar tunes. And fear not, fellow straight people: As long as you don’t get all weird about it, you can party too.
