As a little seven-year-old girl singing her heart out in her grandmother’s living room, Myochi Eboné Johnson dreamed of someday performing for an audience of millions. Now, as an adult, she has finally decided to make that dream a reality. Somewhere in the middle, however, she decided to take the road more frequently traveled. The gifted student completed her undergraduate studies at Fisk University in hopes of becoming a physician, but studying in Nashville (better known as Music City) slowly caused those dormant childhood desires to awaken.
After Hurricane Katrina, the New Orleans native saw Nashville not as just the birthplace of her alma mater, but it was her new home. “Nothing could replace New Orleans,” said Myochi in her strong Southern (with a hint of Creole) dialect. “But I know God led me to Nashville for a reason.” After attending an Urban Gospel Music Conference held at her local church, that reason was suddenly clear. She ditched the MCATs, hired a vocal coach, got in the gym and after a year of preparation, is now recording songs for her debut album.
