Lane Kiefling started Jakehead in Champaign, Illinois during the winter of 1999. One of the first members was Jeffrey"Buttermilk" Gibbens on bass. In 2002 Lee "Hotpocket" Hansen joined on upright bass and with Lane they recruited Jerffrey once again, this time on drums. In 2002-2003 Jakehead performed with Big Sandy and his Fly Rite Boy's, Th' Legendary Shack Shakers, Big Bad Voodoo Daddies(@ the House of Blues in Chicago), Wayne "The Train" Hancock, and many others. In 2005 Lane moved to Nashville to reform Jakehead. Since then he has had a roving line of players including Phil Hummer on bass and Harry Fontana on drums. Currently Jakehead consists of: Greenbean, playing straight Steel and Dobro, Shawn Supra on Upright Bass, Johnny on the Bull Fiddle, and Cassady Feasby Hittin' not Missin' on the Skins. The sound Jakehead is going for isn't Rockabilly, Hillbilly, Juke Joint, Western Swing or Gypsy Jazz, but rather all and none of these things all at once. The band likes to get the crowd riled up, but doesn't cowtow and lets the audience think and feel for themselves without doing the "holler-n-swaller" schtick. Roots music and Rural Art is often misunderstood, you can either throw it all in a big pot and boil it down to nothing, or you can eat it raw and get all the nutrients you deserve, so dig in and enjoy! ..
