Though he’s among many talented R&B artists who haven’t broken into the mainstream, Anthony David is a household name in at least one house: The White House! The neo-soul singer-songwriter from Atlanta, whose warmth and smoothness bear frequent comparison to Bill Withers and Terry Callier, was cited as a favorite by President Obama and the first lady in 2010. David began his career behind the scenes, writing “Part of My Life” for his friend India.Arie, who cut the track on her 2001 double-platinum debut Acoustic Soul. She returned the favor by making his 2008 record Acey Deucy the first release on her Soulbird label, and making a guest appearance on the track “Words,” which was nominated for a Grammy. He’s now recording for conglomerate eOne, and the single “4Evermore” from 2011’s As Above So Below has been David’s biggest solo hit yet, landing at No. 18 on the Billboard R&B chart. Nashville producer Shannon Sanders, whose credits range from Lyle Lovett to Young Buck, helps David’s latest album Love Out Loud stay focused on the strong uptempo grooves familiar to David’s fans, while providing enough variety to showcase his ample versatility.
