Do you own Wooden Wand’s new album Blood Oaths of the New Blues yet? No? What’s wrong with you?! The new record from the Staten Island-bred, Kentucky-based friend of our city is filled with gritty, naturalist storytelling and bold, adventurous arrangements. It’s hands-down one of the best releases of 2013. And if you’re all like, “But it’s only February! How do you know what the rest of the year holds?” — we should probably mention we’re already getting promos for June releases, and we haven’t heard much that compares. (The exception being WW-buddy and local champ William Tyler’s new one, but we’ll discuss that at a later date.) Wooden Wand is backed by a gang of Birmingham, Ala., all-stars, so brace yourself for some seriously beautiful performances from some of the South’s best players.
