Born and raised in Cincinnati,Ohio, Brian picked up the guitar in his teens and played in a Christian pop/rock band in college. Majoring in electronic communications,he graduated planning on a career in radio broadcasting,but a part-time job as a youth pastor in a small town outside of Cincinnati soon became the focus of his life. Brian spent 10 years in youth and music ministry,writing songs as a sideline before showing his songs to anyone in the music industry. He found immediate success, and by the late 80's had established himself as a premier songwriter with the Benson Music Group, now known as Brentwood-Benson Music Publishing. He has written for such artist as Avalon, 4 Him, Point of Grace, 33 Miles , Mandisa , Brian Littrell, Selah, The Crabb Family, All Star United, Greg Long, Larnelle Harris, Jaci Velasquez, Cliff Richard, Karyn Williams , 16 Cities, Me In Motion, and many others. His writing has earned him thirteen number 1 songs as well as 2 Dove Awards, one for Inspirational Song of the Year in 1994 for "Holding Out Hope to You", recorded by Michael English and the other for Southern Gospel Song of the Year in 2004 for “The Promise" recorded by the Martins.
