Montezuma Fire Machine is a band that strives to set itself apart from what comes to mind when one thinks of music in Nashville, Tennessee. They take life experiences from places as far away as the Middle East, as nearby as East Nashville, and everywhere in between, and combine it with years of training and knowledge of music. The final product is a high impact instrumental concoction that combines Latin and World rhythms, the improvisatory spirit of jazz fusion, and a precise live show performed with high energy that bridges the gap between musician's music and music for the masses.
Their arena is a city where three highways converge and they are using this to their advantage. MFM has spent the past year spreading their sound throughout the Southeast and is now also targeting the Midwest. Versatility is the key to their sound and it is paying off; they have shared the stage with a diverse group regional and national acts such as Snarky Puppy, Milele Roots, Kansas Bible Company, Detroit Mutant Radio, The Great Barrier Reefs, The Barry Mando Project, Scott Fernandez, and Deep Machine.
The group's debut EP, “Frown Like a Lord”, derived from the group's namesake—Montezuma—was released for free online in the Fall of 2011, in a very DIY fashion and has been received well both at home and abroad. The band is currently working on fine tuning material for their first full length album, which currently remains unnamed. This LP will represent material written over the span of the past three years that was conceived in the practice, and proven live. The new album will also represent a slimmer but more efficient machine with only six pieces as opposed to the seven heard on “Frown Like a Lord”.
Words and music on a website won't tell the whole story, though. If one really wants to know MFM, the only true way to do this is to go to a live show and witness the Machine. The group has two words that sum up their philosophy and the goal they intend to see through: World Domination.
