The Black Angels w/Hanni El Khatib & Wall Of DeathPop/Rock
With its long history of psychedelic pioneers like 13th Floor Elevators, the crown of “premiere psych band from Austin” is a heavy one to wear, but The Black Angels do it with the regal bearing of road veterans. “Don’t Play With Guns,” the heavy lead single from their newly released Indigo Meadow, bristles with mangled guitars, but the politically charged message rides through like Lady Godiva on a pop melody we found ourselves whistling for the rest of the day. Joining them tonight are Wall of Death, birds of a feather all the way from Paris, France, and L.A. native Hanni El Khatib, who has been a busy practitioner of biting neo-garage anthems, several of which have been licensed for use in TV commercials, shows and feature films. El Khatib recently worked on his second full-length with Dan Auerbach at Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound Studio in Nashville. If the video he posted of work in progress “Nobody Move” is any indication, expect both your concert and your future TV commercials to be gritty and groovy.
