New Faces Nite feat. Shut Up, Bearheart, Red Beard's Nest, Heyrocco, Vanishing Islands & Luke Dolahenty

Pop/Rock
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

An up-and-coming trio from Charleston, S.C., Heyrocco have traditionally been purveyors of indie pop with a melancholy touch, marrying Tortoise’s experimental flavor to The Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ anthemic drive, as evidenced on their self-recorded full-length Comfort. After touring as an opener for groups like MuteMath, the group hits the road this spring in support of their brand-spanking-new EP Elsewhere. The four-song set was recorded by the crew at Hello Telephone, a studio operated by Jay Clifford, 10-year veteran of Jump, Little Children. Though they don’t carry TV sets or marching band outfits, Heyrocco’s new sound is not too far removed from our own Heypenny. The new material signals a push out of the ether and into more straight-ahead pop, with Nathan Merli’s vocals at the very front, ringing out over insistent, geometric arrangements that might be familiar to fans of Minus the Bear and Phoenix.
