“Apparently nobody told Daniel Ellsworth that when you drop your first full-length, it’s not supposed to be a greatest hits record. You’re supposed to build up to that. I say this for two reasons—just hear me out. One, every song sounds like it could be a hit. Two, every song sounds different, like each was plucked from a series of dusty vinyl, cracked cassettes and ripped MP3s. It’s all over the place in a phenomenal way. I hate comparing musicians, but this sounds like a cross between Jack White and M. Ward, and those guys are about three sips of absinthe away from total wizardry. Seriously, this will be my highest rated review. Go. Buy. The. Record.”

Artist Bio:

Though they now call Nashville their home, the members of The Great Lakes hail from across our great nation (Joel, drummer, Wichita, KS; Marshall, bass guitar, Columbus, OH; Timon, regular guitar, Youngstown, OH; Daniel, everything else, Minneapolis, MN), bringing with them (besides their clothes and stuff) a unique mélange of stories and the diverse cultures of their respective hometowns.

Their self-produced album released in May of 2011, Civilized Man, was recorded by Mark Nevers (Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Andrew Bird, Yo La Tengo) at Beech House in Nashville. It is itself something of a departure from the singer/songwriter category of the rest of Ellsworth’s catalog.

The Lonely Biscuits, formerly known as Gravy and the Biscuits have been together since September of 2011. Founding members Grady Wenrich and Sam Gidley were random roommates at Belmont University where they started jamming and making music out of their dorm room. John Paterini current lead singer of the band came into the picture in September after hearing some of their tunes from his dorm room across the hall. Then, two months later, Nick Byrd joined the band as an official biscuit playing bass guitar. Blending soul, funk, and pop with rap, The Lonely Biscuits have created a unique and chilled out sound that has appealed to a wide array of people.
