Family of the Year w/The Mowgli's

Pop/Rock
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Spring is officially here, and if you’re ready for a dose of sunny, cathartic shout-along, Los Angeles indie-folk-poppers Family of the Year may be just what the doctor ordered. They’ve received some impressive celebrity attention: According to a Spinner interview, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler called them up to offer personal advice, and Ben Folds invited them to open on his date with The Boston Pops. Most importantly, however, the Family employs plenty of melodic twists and turns to keep their big-grin hooks and folky “The Mamas and The Papas on acid” feel from getting stale. New trails aren’t being blazed here, but a pinch of their infectious enthusiasm is enough to make Jack Frost a distant memory. Joining them tonight are fellow Angelinos The Mowgli’s, who follow a similar hearts-on-our-sleeves/fists-in-the-air pattern, raising their eight voices in a massive choir of youthful exuberance.
