The Basement's New Faces Nite feat. Stereo Dig w/Daniel Romano, Dirty Lions & Nathan Rich

Pop/Rock
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Don’t bother asking Daniel Romano whether or not he really lived the sad tale of parental abandonment he sings about in “Middle Child,” the teary-eyed honky-tonk ballad that opens his new album, Come Cry With Me. Or whether he’s ever “skipped and hopped” to a lover’s house, flowers in hand, only to find her in the arms of another man, like the poor sap in his song “That’s the Very Moment.” Romano’s worshipping at the altar of George Jones and Gene Watson, who use strenuously emotional singing to bring the pain in hardcore country heart songs to life; autobiography’s got nothing to do with it. It’s a little surprising that Romano has so thoroughly committed himself to this tender style of expression that spoke to his grandparents’ generation — especially considering he started out in the not-so-sentimental Canadian indie rock band Attack in Black — but you can tell his heart’s in it.
