Johnny Crow grew up and honed his musical skills in the burgeoning metropolis of Lyles, Tennessee. For over 3 decades, his vocals have guided various pop/rock cover bands into obscurity. He was a founding member of the relatively unheard of Due South Band that made their debut at the Nunnelly Community Center on July 27, 1981 (he still has the only known recording of that show). He has performed as a solo, duet and band member artist. Early influences include Skynyrd, Frampton, the Bee Gees, Barefoot Jerry and the CDB.
The popularity of the new wave explosion in the early 80’s forced Johnny to retire from live performances in 1983. A Flock of Seagulls had wrecked his way of life. After extended college and a failed brief marriage, the mid 90s brought a resurrection to his music career. Conspiring with some of his kinfolk to form a country/western cover band, he toured extensively throughout middle and west Tennessee. In 2001, with the duet Cover2Cover, he landed a regular paying gig playing various Holiday Inn lounges in the Dickson/Nashville area.
He relocated to Nashville in 2004 and in 2010, along with his current bandmates, founded The Kickstands. He contributes pitchy vocals and mediocre rhythm guitar to the group. His hobbies include cycling, construction projects, and live music/theatre. He is an Aries.
