Echo Group w/Meadownoise & Tower Defense
Under-sung local indie rockers Echo Group marry the sun-kissed jangle of West Coast pop with the urbaneness and sophisticated arrangements of East Coast post-punk and rock ’n’ roll — and we’re talking about a crew of landlocked Tennesseans. Thanks to roomy production, melodious guitars that drip with reverb, wonderfully swelling horn parts and rafter-reaching vocal melodies courtesy of frontman Justin Webb, it’s awfully easy to compare Echo Group’s The Challtalk Record Collection to the songs of The Walkmen. But in the realm of indie rock, that’s like a filmmaker being compared to the Coen Brothers or something — we seriously doubt the Echo Group dudes mind our persistent comparisons too much. After all, when it comes right down to it, they’re just making well-written and well-executed pop music and passing it through a rock ’n’ roll filter. Meadownoise and Tower Defense — also local, and also quite good — will open.
