We're having a grand opening celebration for our new expanded store, Grimey's Too, on Saturday, February 23rd. We were already planning this event when soul and blues legend Bobby Rush's people reached out to us about Bobby playing in the store on the 23rd. Um... HELL YES immediately came to mind! Bobby Rush emerged from the Chicago blues scene in the early '60s, fronting bands that included Freddie King and Luther Allison. He drifted away from that vital scene to make his mark on the "chitlin circuit", touring the south and scoring hits like "Chicken Heads" and "Bow-Legged Woman". By 1979, he was on the seminal Philadelphia International label with an LP, "Rush Hour", produced by Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff. Rush has remained popular ever since with releases on southern blues label Malaco and his own Deep Rush imprint, distributed by Nashville-based Thirty Tigers. We'll have Bobby Rush playing at the original Grimey's, with its enhanced in-store set-up accommodating more folks than ever, while we're celebrating the opening of Grimey's Too with Howlin' Books and Frothy Monkey! Come see a soul & blues legend for free and check out the new digs and expanded inventory. Bobby Rush's new album is "Down In Louisiana" and it's out next Tuesday, Feb. 19.
