POPSHOP featuring St. Lucia w/Haerts, & Future Unlimited

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Here’s a bill featuring three bands specializing in electronic pop, ’80s style. From Johannesburg-by-way-of-New York, St. Lucia creates off-kilter tracks that settle into a groove, and he doesn’t stint on the synths. St. Lucia, whose real name is Jean-Philip Grobler, first attracted attention with his 2011 single, “The Old House Is Gone,” and he’s continued recording his brand of revivalist synth-pop. Meanwhile, Haerts is another New York band that references such ’80s performers as Naked Eyes and Gary Numan. Their moody 2012 single “Wings” got production assistance from St. Lucia — the song floats off into the ether without losing its impact. Tonight’s show is rounded out by the Nashville electronic-pop duo Future Unlimited, whose “Haunted Love” features gliding keyboards and doom-laden percussion. Comprising David Miller and Samuel D’Amelio, Future Unlimited is set to release their debut full-length later this year.
