Fanny's House of Music Fourth Anniversary Party feat. Poly & Hobo Rampage
Pop/Rock
In a commercial arena dominated by Guitar Center and other corporate interests, it’s great to see an independent music store thrive. Noting that the proprietors make a point to carry instruments physically suited to women and children, you might mistake them for kindly grannies who think rock ’n’ roll is just precious, but don’t be fooled — they have years of experience to back up their recommendations. Tonight, Fanny’s House of Music celebrates four years of being more than just a place on the edge of Five Points for bearded dudes to fantasize about jukebox heroism, though the laid-back atmosphere and the collection of used and new gear are certainly conducive to that. The all-ages event features a performance by Hobo Rampage — made up of alumni of Fanny’s School of Rock-style program Kids Rock — who’ve already distinguished themselves in their schools’ talent shows and on the main stage at last year’s Tomato Arts Festival. Capping the evening is a set from Poly, the trio fronted by frequent Scene MVP Larissa Maestro, whose quaint pre-World War II pop stylings hide some wicked-sharp teeth.
