Richie w/Angel Olsen & William Tyler

Pop/Rock
Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Whether you like cinematic instrumental music, introspective indie singer-songwriter fare or balls-to-the wall party anthems, this triple bill has you covered. First up is William Tyler, whose gorgeous and haunting 2010 record of guitar music Behold the Spirit made the perfect soundtrack for my Joshua Tree sojourn a few weeks ago. (Willy T. disproved my assumption that nothing would beat Calexico on long desert drives.) Spin magazine named the guitar whiz one of the “5 Best New Artists for February ’13” on the strength of his upcoming release Impossible Truth (out March 19), calling the record “devastating.” Next up is  Chicago singer-songwriter Angel Olsen, a frequent Bonnie “Prince” Billy collaborator whose 2012 record Half Way Home got strong reviews. The New York Times’ Ben Ratliff wrote that she cast a spell for most of her November set at Williamsburg’s Glasslands, adding, “People stopped buying drinks; the bartenders put their elbows on the counter, engrossed. It was remarkable.” And then, just when you’re thinking you’re going to break down in tears from all those feelings, party animal Ri¢hie comes to the rescue. Ri¢hie will be filming a video for his song “Wanna Party With My Friends,” so if you’re hankering for screen time, now’s your chance. The mustachioed ax-slinger also promises to announce the location of an after-party where even more debauchery (and filming, naturally) will ensue. BYOB; a $5  suggested donation.
