Tonya started writing songs when she was 8-years old. This is evident by songs her mom saved in her elementary school scrapbook. “I’ve known since the 3rd grade what I wanted to do with my life,” says Tonya. Although her “roots” are Indiana, Tonya feels like Tennessee is the “soil” she is spiritually connected to. Tonya’s dad is from Manchester, TN and her mom is from the coal mines of West Virginia. She says “With a name like Tonya Lynette Whitman, my parents must’ve known I was somehow going to be in country music!” Beginning in high school and through college Tonya performed throughout the Midwest. Married with 2 daughters, it was an Oprah Show with guest author, Gail Blanke, who wrote “In My Wildest Dreams” that inspired Tonya Lynette Stout to move to Nashville.
