Shannon and Heather Slaughter County Clare Album Release

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Even in the relatively tiny business of bluegrass, there’s a bit of a bias against independent releases. So it can be easy for cool acts like Shannon and Heather Slaughter and County Clare to get overlooked. It tells you something, then, that Shannon has been a consistent presence on bluegrass radio for the past year and a half.  The new project, One More Road, answers any questions that might arise, turning the tight quintet loose on a set that’s heavy on Shannon’s idiomatic yet thoughtful originals, as well as some outside material and a couple of classics that include a pedal steel-enhanced take on the old country hit “Pass Me By,” and the touching Slaughters duet “If I Were A Carpenter.” Label or not, this is convincing, well-executed music that takes a back seat to no one.
