Richard DuBois w/The RA-6600, Anchor Thieves, & Seth Timbs

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

We’re not exactly sure why the 2013 installment of the International Pop Overthrow was suddenly rescheduled for September, but through the benevolence of Family Wash jefe Jamie Rubin, we have this free show instead. Much more than a consolation prize, the four-band bill offers a condensed version of everything the Overthrow stands for — namely, electrified post-rock ’n’ roll pop music in all its romantic glory. The Seth Timbs Thing is, as advertised, the latest vehicle for the power-poppin’ piano man from Fluid Ounces. While Anchor Thieves do their own thing, their skills bring on the nostalgia for nostalgia-provokers of the ’90s like Matthew Sweet. RA-6600 may be a duo, but their late-’70s-vintage style sounds much bigger thanks to fine harmonies and some of the best songs in the business. Capping it all off is Richard DuBois, one of the most skilled performers ever to blend early rock and punk-informed pop à la The Replacements.
