Colleen Green w/Nightmare Boyzzz & Music Band
See that girl over there? That’s Colleen Green. Hunched over her Jazzmaster and her low-fi drum machine. Who does she think she is, Lou Reed’s niece? I hear she smokes pot. I bet she calls her sunglasses “teashades.” OK, enough with the Mean Girls shtick. An L.A. native by way of Boston, Green has the apathetic stoner persona down, but the quality of her songs belies their decidedly minimalist foundations. Her debut LP Sock It to Me makes the sunny simplicity of Best Coast more interesting, leaving gorgeous melodies to blossom in stark relief to the wall of warm fuzz and skeletal drumbeats, while she meditates on one-sided love and other “Heavy Shit.” Joining her tonight are Nightmare Boyzzz, a quartet from Muscle Shoals whose new EP Up All Night seeks to add grungy, surf-flavored power pop to their hometown’s illustrious musical legacy.
