Shy Guy w/Penicillin Baby & More
While the members of Shy Guy have obviously spent time burying themselves in My Bloody Valentine records, they eschew shoegaze apathy and instead remain captivated and purposeful within their ethereal pummel. The band packs its sound with a sonic glow in the vein of Slowdive or The Jesus and Mary Chain yet never forsakes the dance sensibilities chartered by New Order and Gang of Four. As we’ve noted in the past, you shouldn’t let Shy Guy’s bizarre Web presence fool you — they’re one of Nashville’s most promising groups, wielding thoughtfully considered lyrics, sparkling guitar work, and a muscular rhythm section. Likewise, locals Penicillin Baby also steer toward the surreal, leaning on krautrock, phase and massive power pop chords for a sound akin to The Secret Machines or Tame Impala. Back-to-back, both groups promise a night full of the divine and the danceable.
