EmptyMansions w/Scott Lucas & The Married Men
I’d be a rich man if I got paid every time two musicians got soused at a bar, gleefully hollered, “We should start a band!” at one another over a clamorous jukebox, then forgot the entire conversation the next morning. We’ve all been there. Interpol drummer Sam Fogarino has too, only when he downed one too many with utility player Brandon Curtis (Secret Machines, Cosmicide) on tour in Europe a few years ago, the two weren’t just talking shit. Indeed, the result of that boozy meeting of the minds is EmptyMansions, a three-piece entity (“definitely not a side project, but not exactly a band,” according to a press release) that also includes The Jesus Lizard’s Duane Denison. EmptyMansions — which released its debut LP snakes/vultures/sulfate on Record Store Day (an event that also saw Fogarino DJ-ing at East Nashville record haunt The Groove) — play sludgy, cavernous rock music that feels appropriately removed from this decade, and which should sound punishing in The End.
