A Benefit for Manny Cuevas

Wear it Out, Wear It Well feat. The Mavericks

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Manuel Cuevas Jr.’s fashions trend more toward chic and sensible streetwear than the suits his father designed for Elvis and Gram Parsons. There’s no telling where his talent will take him, though: Manuel Sr. spent years sewing business suits before he joined Nudie Cohn’s shop and developed his signature Western wear, whose timeless rhinestone-set flamboyance continues to enhance personalities from Wanda Jackson’s band to the cast of ABC’s Nashville. The younger Cuevas was sidelined for several months by an aggressive illness, and though the danger has passed, the medical bills haven’t. To help Manny get back on his feet, friends and clients have banded together for a benefit concert that will be broadcast live and hosted by venerable MC Billy Block. At press time, the bill has stretched to 15 acts, topped by omnivorous country group The Mavericks, who are currently touring behind their first record since 2003. In Time finds them drawing on early rock ’n’ roll and Latin flavors from their native Miami with the vigor of greenhorns and the grace of seasoned pros.
