The Lonely Wild w/Little Bandit & Banditos
Ask any music critic for the most overused descriptors that reviewers apply to bands, and “cinematic” will definitely be in the top five. It’s typically shorthand for something along the lines of, “They really let the chords ring during a slow song.” The Lonely Wild, however, makes a completely legitimate claim on the word. The young L.A.-based quintet has a sound that encompasses elements of the full-force gang-vocal harmonizing that’s become a popular way to convey emotional solidarity. But in a truly imaginative twist, they’ve framed it in desolate desert twang and wide-open reverb, the sort of arrangements that conjure a lone ranger figure. As a result, their self-produced debut album, The Sun As It Comes, has a seriously satisfying broad palette.
