Honor Thy Song feat. Joey + Rory w/Daryle Singletary, Rob Crosby, Marc Beeson, Brett Jones, Joe West, Will Robinson, Jamie Houston, James Dean Hicks & Jimmy WayneCountry
Being Music City and all, Nashville is no stranger to memorial shows benefiting the families of departed musicians and songwriters. But friends of songwriter Tim Johnson, who died on Oct. 21 after a two-year-battle with cancer, came up with an especially inspired idea: Instead of trying to raise a finite sum of money to help his surviving wife and two children, why not host what they’re calling “The World’s Largest Pitch Session,” in hopes of landing some cuts that might generate income for years to come? That might sound like a long shot for your average Nashville songwriter, but Johnson had an established track record, so to speak — his credits include Diamond Rio’s “God Only Cries,” Jimmy Wayne’s “Do You Believe Me Now,” and Daryle Singletary’s “I Let Her Lie.” Among this gathering at the Ryman to perform some of Johnson’s best unrecorded tracks will be Wayne, Singletary, Joey + Rory, Rob Crosby, Marc Beeson and a whole bunch more. And all attendees will get a CD featuring Johnson singing 15 of those unrecorded tracks, which they can share with their music industry friends. Admission is free, but it’s a ticketed event, through all the usual Ryman ticket outlets.
