Titus Andronicus w/The So So Glos & Diarrhea Planet

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Conceptually, Titus Andronicus has its roots in The Clash, The Boss and The Replacements, spitting raw-throated anthems flecked with blood and caked with dirt. Addressing contemporary social issues in the context of long-standing truths, the group pays tribute to a great panoply of American music through amped-up sing-alongs so energetic they almost jump out of the speakers. Titus Andronicus found a place in the pantheon by putting its own spin on what its forebears did best: examining the Civil War from the inside-out on 2010’s The Monitor, just when the gap between the richest and poorest Americans was thrown into stark relief by the financial crisis. 2013’s Local Business is exactly what it says on the label: Singer Patrick Stickles turns his critical eye toward more personal issues, confronting eating disorders and finding his place among “a deluge of hipsters,” with the same lyrical intensity and incisiveness that marked previous efforts. Kindred spirits, albeit with a bit more indie pop in their DNA, So So Glos did their first national tour supporting Titus Andronicus, and the way the two pair up makes us glad they decided on a repeat.
