Muse w/Cage the Elephant

Nashville Scene Critic's Pick …

Whether you’re a fan of classic British heavy metal, Reagan-era thrash, contemporary British neo-prog or Southern-tinged throwback grunge-pop, Bridgestone Arena will rock you this week. Only one day after Iron Maiden and Megadeth bring their blazing riffs to the ’Stone (to the delight of middle-aged Middle Tennessee metal heads), Radiohead-obsessed, über-proggy, soccer-stadium-filling limey power-trio du jour Muse returns to the arena, bringing with them a reliably spectacular stage production complete with a towering, shape-shifting pyramid of LED screens, strobe lights, lasers and carbon dioxide cannons. No doubt enough flair fit to match the musical subtlety of direly titled hits and fan favorites like “Uprising,” “Resistance,” “Survival,” “Stockholm Syndrome” and “Apocalypse Please.” On a lighter note, (mostly) Nashville-residing rockers-on-the-rise Cage the Elephant (who sound like Daniel Johnston fronting Kings of Leon covering Beck) will open. They will likely turn in a set that’s heavy in general, not to mention heavy on cuts from the band’s much-anticipated third full-length Melophobia (due Oct. 8).
